A quick biography My name is Mark Beal, I was born in 1965 in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK. I live very happily in Seaford, East Sussex. My interests are PCs, general geekery, gaming, walking, cooking. My spirituality I would describe simply as "Love thy neighbour as thyself". Nice and short, wasn't that refreshing? |

My Work Presently I am working as a Software Tester at Epic. I have spent most of my working life in computing. I started as a mainframe Computer Operator with the National Health Service in 1991. I then trained as a programmer in 1992. I spent the next six years working for the NHS and IBM as a mainframe Programmer. At first I concentrated on Application Master, an ICL 4GL, building data entry and viewing systems. I then also developed my COBOL and IDMSX skills and worked on large-scale financial processing systems.
In 1999 I decided to take a career break to pursue other interests. For the next three years I worked variously as a postman, chef, learning disabilities support worker and tried to make a million on the internet (I didn't). I had always wanted a computing qualification having had a mainly arts education. From 2002 to 2003 I took a Higher National Certificate in computing at Brighton and Hove City College. I was awarded a Merit with a Distinction for the web design module.
